Biography

I was born in Bergamo in 1968 and I live and work in Mozzo, in the same province. My artistic path stems from a deep need to explore, experiment and continually question what I know. The search for new languages is an unbroken process for me, in which every work is a territory to cross and, at the same time, a chance to go further.

In making my works I experiment with heterogeneous techniques, materials and supports, letting the matter itself suggest new directions. I do not consider material a mere means through which to express an idea: it becomes an integral part of the work, determining its physicality, its light, its depth and, often, its meaning.

My obsession with perfection is a fundamental part of the way I am and the way I work. I do not see it as a destination, but as a continuous tension towards something that perhaps can never be fully reached. It is precisely this relentless search that drives me to correct, experiment, destroy and start again, until I find the balance I feel is necessary.

My production spans a deliberately vast temporal and stylistic arc. I am fascinated by the primordial gesture of the rock carvings in Paleolithic caves as much as by the immediate, contemporary force of Street Art in urban and suburban centres. In such distant eras I recognise the same need: the human need to leave a trace, to transform what one sees and to give form to something belonging to one's inner dimension.

Natural images are for me a starting point to investigate reality, not simply to reproduce it. Through matter I try to move past the surface of things and explore their deeper dimension.

I use common materials and carry them into a new dimension through juxtapositions and contrasts. Oils, with brushstrokes able to create depth and movement, converse with viscous resins and with the roughness of sands. Glass, transparent and polished, introduces the opposite dimension: lightness, light, refraction. It is exactly this tension between different elements that interests me, because it is in the clash of matter, surface and light that a work can take on a life of its own.

In abstraction I found the language that best allows me to approach what I cannot, and perhaps do not want to, define through representation. Abstraction offers me the possibility of reaching the incomprehensible, of giving form to the indefinable and of turning a sensation into matter.

My work is therefore born on the threshold between reality and imagination, between what we see and what we perceive without managing to name it. I try to make visible what remains hidden in the folds of the mind, what escapes ordinary perception and emerges only when we allow ourselves to look beyond the surface.

For me, painting and creating mean exactly this: bringing the invisible to light, giving form to the elusive and turning matter into a trace of the inner dimension.
